CLAC Attack

Joe Hill had the pleasure of working with John O'Grady and the Ontario Building Trades through the second half of 2013 on a campaign to displace CLAC at a London, Ontario contractor. For those who don't know, CLAC is a pretend union that employers often call in when they feel threatened by a real union. Once in place, CLAC asks little of the employer and does little to defend it's members.

This was the first time the three trades - IBEW, UA and SMWIA - had all worked together on an anti-CLAC campaign, which in itself was a major step forward.

The strategy was to take a very positive approach and spend a lot more time talking about what workers gain with the Building Trades than what they lose with CLAC. The Trades had learned in previous campaigns that an attack strategy wouldn't work.

The Wordpress website tells the story and gives the client lots of flexibility and easy updates. So easy that specific locals are using a version of the site for other anti-Clac campaigns. Other support included an impressive booklet intended for workers to share with their families.
